This pattern has everything you need to crochet Pastel Frog. Although her name is Pastel Frog, you can certainly make her any color you’d like!

So let’s get started!

MATERIALS (what I used in parentheses)

GAUGE
Gauge isn’t important for this pattern. Just make sure your stitches are tight to avoid stuffing show through. My finished Pastel Frog measures 4 inches tall by 4 inches wide.

  • Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.
  • Demonstration photos are shown right handed.

EMBROIDERING THE FACE
Embroidering on crochet takes a bit of practice, but it gives your amigurumi lots of personality. The key to embroidering on crochet is to make sure to insert your needle through your stitches and not in a hole between stitches so your thread remains secure. It is also much easier to embroider on crochet before you’ve finished and stuffed your piece.

To begin, cut a 24-inch piece of black fine weight yarn or embroidery floss (using all 6 strands). Thread embroidery needle and double knot end.

If you’d rather not embroider eyes, use safety eyes between rends 4 & 5 of eyes and embroider nose and mouth using steps 6, 7, 9, & 10.

1. Starting with the right eye, insert your threaded needle into st on rnd 3.

2. Insert needle in rnd below and slightly to the right to make a stitch.

3. Following eyeline, bring needle up through st. Make backstitch to connect to previous st. Continue backstitching until end of eye.

9. Make a long stitch between rnds 6 & 7 of body for mouth and sew felt cheeks onto corners of mouth using pink sewing thread. Knot and secure ends inside work.

ATTACHING BOTTOM PANEL
Sew bottom panel onto Frog’s body. Make sure to align bottom panel correctly to avoid warping.

1. Fold Frog’s body in half and flatten to find the corner stitches.

2. Align the bottom panel with Frog’s body so that center line of bottom panel is parallel to Frog’s eyes.
