- Increases and decreases on the body aren’t symmetrical due to the shaping.

EMBROIDERING THE FACE

We’ll now be making the Uni Queen’s face! Embroidering on crochet takes a bit of practice, but it gives your crochet unicorn lots of personality. The key to embroidering on crochet is to make sure to insert your needle through your stitches and not in a hole between stitches so your thread remains secure. It is also much easier to embroider on crochet before you’ve finished and stuffed your piece. For more tips and tricks to embroider faces on amigurumi, check out this blog post (it even has a video tutorial)!
To begin, cut a 30-inch piece of embroidery floss (using all 6 strands), thread your embroidery needle, and double knot end. If you’d rather not embroider her eyes, simply use safety eyes between rnds 7 and 8 on each side of head and just embroider her nose and mouth using steps 9 – 16.

BODY, CONTINUED
rnds 22-30: Sc around (69 sts for 9 rnds)
Sl st 1 into the 1st st of rnd 30. Fasten off, leaving a 10-inch yarn tail for weaving in.
CROCHETING THE LEGS
The legs may seem a little daunting before you get started, but I promise you’ll get the hang of it! Photo references for each leg below each section.
Before crocheting legs, you’ll need to place 8 stitch markers as guides. Before starting, make sure you have 69 sts and that you slip stitched into the first st of rnd 30. To set-up stitch markers (sm): Starting with the st after the sl st, count 5 sts and place marker on the 5th st (sm 1, photo A). Continue counting and place marker on 11th st (sm 2), 28th st (sm 3), 34th st (sm 4), 39th st (sm 5), 45th st (sm 6), 62nd st (sm 7), and 68th st (sm 8). When you fold the body in half, the sms should line up (photo B). You’ll be crocheting the legs in this order: Leg 1, Leg 2, Leg 4, Leg 3 (photo C).

LEG 1
rnd 1: Using color A, join yarn at sm 2 with a sl st and remove marker. Ch 6 (photo D), connect at sm 3 with a sl st and remove marker (photo E). Ch 1, turn to work down ch (photo F). Sc 6 along ch (mark first sc with a stitch marker), sc 16 around body (22 sts)
rnd 2: Sc around (22 sts)
rnd 3: Sc 1, inv dec 2, [sc 2, inv dec 1] 4x, sc 1 (16 sts)
rnd 4: Sc 1, change to color B, sc around, crochet over tail ends or double knot inside leg to avoid weaving them in (16 sts)
rnd 5: [sc 2, inv dec 1] 4x (12 sts)
rnd 6: Inv dec 6 (6 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 12-inch end for weaving in. Finish off leg and weave in all loose ends.

LEG 2
rnd 1: Using Color A, join yarn at sm 1 with a sl st and remove marker. Ch 6 and connect at sm 4 with a sl st and remove marker. Ch 1, turn to work down ch. Sc 6 down ch, sc 5 on the body (photo G) until you get to leg 1, sc 6 along leg 1’s ch (photo H, sc 5 on body (22 sts)
rnds 2-6: Repeat rnds 2-6 from leg 1 above.

ATTACHING THE HAIR
For our amigurumi unicorn’s hair, you’ll be taking strands of 10-inch yarn in color C folded in half and threading them through the center of her head and back. Using clusters of 3 strands, you’ll be attaching 20 clusters for the mane and 4 clusters for the tail. The photos below show where you’ll be attaching the clusters.

What a great pattern. So very detailed and easy to understand. Thank you
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I love these little “people” and “things”. They remind me the little fairy things I used to invent when I was a small child. As I have grown older and older, I keep find small children who would love to have little things and people and animals that they can believe in in their imaginations that I will copy them all and create some new ones depending on what each one imagines. You are a very creative person with a fantastic imagination about what appeals to the love of children.
