Crochet Cafe Amigurumi Book Review

Crochet Cafe is the latest amigurumi book from designer Lauren Espy of A Menagerie of Stitches. This book is jam-packed with over 30 adorable crochet food patterns! Grab a copy of Crochet Cafe from Amazon.

Lauren’s first book Whimsical Stitches had a little of everything, but I love that Crochet Cafe is JUST food. My daughter Sylvia aka Baby Curl just got a play kitchen, so I know I’ll be whipping up a lot of these amigurumi food delights for her to play with.

ABOUT CROCHET CAFE

The book has an assortment of fun food crochet patterns. The book design and layout are fun and clear. The design mimics the chalkboard menu at a café! I also love that the sections are organized into meals – breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and desserts. What I especially liked is the variety of foods! Can we talk about how cute the Shrimp Lo Mein is? The book had food crochet patterns I’d never seen before in addition to classics like the orange and apple.

The book is open to the Burger & Fries crochet pattern. An amigurumi burger and fries sit next to it.

I decided to make the classic Burger and Fries. I don’t eat meat, so I’ve declared my burger to be a black bean burger! The patterns were easy to follow and assemble. I used worsted weight yarn with a size E (3.25 mm) hook for the Burger and size F (3.75mm) for the fries. I liked the variety of techniques used in making the burger toppings. My burger also features an embroidered face because that’s just what I do (p.s. this blog post walks you through how to embroider faces on your amigurumi)!

Crochet Cafe includes the following patterns:
BREAKFAST – Avocado Toast & Avocado, Bacon Eggs & Toast, Eggs Benedict, Muffin & Latte, Stack of Pancakes
LUNCH – Bento Box, Burrito, Falafel Pita, Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, Hot Dog & Condiments
SNACKS – Apples, Chips & Guacamole, Juice Box, Oranges, Popcorn, Popsicle
DINNER – Burger & Fries, Shrimp Lo Mein & Fortune Cookie, Lobster & Corn on the Cob, Pizza, Spaghetti & Meatballs with a Glass of Wine
DESSERT – Cannoli, Cheesecake, Éclair, Ice Cream Cone, Pie

Great for beginner and seasoned amigurumi crocheters!

Crochet Cafe is a great pattern book for first time amigurumi crocheters or more seasoned crocheters looking for a great collection of amigurumi food patterns. Lauren writes really easy to understand and beginner-friendly patterns that are a joy to crochet. The book also has step-by-step photo tutorials for every stitch which is a great reference.

Even as an amigurumi designer, it’s great practice making another designer’s patterns. The patterns in Crochet Cafe are different than the patterns I usually make and they got me out of my comfort zone to try new ways of attaching and crocheting.

Crochet Cafe makes an amazing gift for a friend looking to get started with amigurumi crochet! Just bundle it with some hooks and yarn and you’re set!

I’d love to know – what’s your favorite pattern from the book?
