The talented Alison North (aka KornflakeStew) just released her first book – Cutest Crochet Creations! What an excellent name for the amigurumi pattern book, too, because the projects are really the CUTEST! (P.S. The irresistible leopard crochet hook is by Make.E! You can get your own here.)

The amigurumi pattern book includes crochet patterns for 16 super sweet dolls. My absolute favorite was Boris the Bear, who I chose to make! But my next doll will probably be the adorable Luka the Lion or a pair of cute birds (their names are Sunny and Bill! Lol!) The dolls in the book would really be great for kids, because they are large enough to hug and can be made using embroidered eyes. For beginners, the book has a section of helpful crochet techniques and tips for making amigurumi dolls. If you aren’t familiar with a crochet stitch, the book has photo stitch tutorials on how to do it.
As a crochet designer myself, I really love crocheting other amigurumi designer’s patterns. I always learn new ways of crocheting. With Boris the Bear, I especially enjoyed his unique shaping and adding his turtleneck. It’s those little details that really make an amigurumi doll amazing! To make Boris, I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Kingfisher Blue, Daffodil Yellow, and Peach Orange. I decided to embroider his eyes because that’s just what I do! And customizing your makes is really what it’s all about.
After moving to a new house, my crochet mojo was pretty non-existent, but making Boris really revved it back into gear. It was such a joy to crochet – the crochet pattern was well-written, the photos were helpful, and the layout was clear. And seeing Boris’s cute face brought a smile to mine!
