The pain began after a 5 hour crochet-a-thon – I was all curled up on a comfy chair crocheting like a fiend. I noticed my left shoulder twinging with pain, but ignored it and kept going because the “one more row!” chant inside my head was too enticing. What a mistake!
After that first injury, my shoulder has NEVER been the same. Every time I crochet in a weird position or when I work on a tiny project, the ache pops up. Now I practice better crochet posture, use pillows underneath my arms, and visit a chiropractor when the pain gets too bad. But one of the best (and easiest!) things I started doing was using specific yoga techniques for stretching before, during, and after my crochet sessions.
Lion Brand Yarn has a great YouTube playlist with videos of specific yoga poses for crocheters and knitters. They focus mainly on the shoulders, wrists, and back to target the problem areas when you crochet and knit. The shoulder opener stretch is my favorite!

I’d love to know if you have any other techniques for keeping crochet or knitting pain at bay! Let me know in the comments 🙂
